Common questions
Where does the data come from?

GridLens uses the monthly AESO Connection Project List, other public AESO grid datasets, and Government of Alberta geographic data. It adds project history and geographic context while preserving the source terminology.

Why is there no MW figure on a county page?

The Connection Project List assigns projects to planning areas, not counties. Because planning areas cross county boundaries, GridLens cannot produce a reliable county MW total from that source.

What do the stages mean?

Stages 0–6 track progress through the AESO Connection Process, from application and assessment through regulatory work, AUC applications, construction, and close-out. A higher stage is further through the process, not a guarantee of completion.

What is the difference between DTS and STS MW?

DTS MW is a reported change in contracted demand capacity; STS MW is a reported change in contracted supply capacity. Neither represents current site demand, generation capability, available grid capacity, or guaranteed service.
